animal rights and more - what would an ethical world look like? would there be animal ownership, pet ownership?
animal rights and more - what is animal abuse and what is going too far in terms of animal rights?
animal rights and more - is pet ownership slavery - even if many pet owners do not treat pets as slaves but as family?

Is pet ownership, dog ownership a human right?
Or is it too close to slavery - something once widely accepted?

Whose Dog is it, Anyway? -
On Pets, Pet Ownership, Slavery

The dog next door wants to move in. He's been hungry. He's sometimes cold. He's left alone, sometimes for days, in the barn. We have two dogs, nine cats (we live in the country) - and a warm house where our pets are welcome. We'd like to give him a home. But he belongs to the farm next door.

And that brings up the question. Should he be allowed to choose? Should that be his legal right?

Denmark now has laws requiring farmers to let cows spend a certain number of hours per day outdoors. But that's the exception. Across North America, animals are kept hardly able to move until they are crated off to be slaughtered. Every day, animals arrive at slaughterhouses dead. The journey is too much for them.

So much to do.

But my question still counts. Should the dog next have the right to choose where to live? In a just world, would everyone accept that as his right?

Animal rights and more:
we're born with the capacity to feel.
What we learn to do with it,
is what matters.

Do we learn to cut off from others? Or do we learn empathy for animals as well as humans?

Do we learn that even if we care,
there's nothing we can do?
Or do we learn that, if we keep trying,
maybe we can find a way to make things better?

Animal Rights And More. The dog next door wants to move in.
Should that be his right?
Animal Rights, Dog Rights versus Human Rights, Pet Ownership.

Animal Rights and More

One of my lifelong concerns has been trying to make sense of reality. What is happening?
Why is this happening? And with that I come to ideas - ideas about reality,
Some of those are ideas about animal rights and more,
Like here, usually the spark is something specific -
in this case the specific case of the dog next door.

I know the situation about animal rights is in flux - in a good way. Fewer people accept
that we have the right, either because we're at the head of the food chain
or because they believe some deity gave it to us, to lord it over animals,
to slaughter all we like, to treat them any way we like. Yet we're so far from treating animals
as they should be treated. Chickens and pigs are raised in tiny areas with no space to move -
great for the slaughterhouse system.

But that didn't spark me to write. Others have written about this eloquently.
Animal rights and more ...
I wrote when I was myself caught. What rights should the dog have?
What about pet ownership, dog ownerhip rights?-
expecially when the animal wasn't being abused?
Or was it animal abuse, cruelty to animals?

Animal rights and more. I was stuck. Still am, now over a year later. The dog lives next door,
usually tied outdoors, except in very cold weather when he's in the barn - he had taking to bothering neighboring cattle, totally unacceptable. I rarely see him. But I still worry about him,
want all to be well with him.

And I still care about the underlying questions relating to animal rights and more,
pet ownership, dog ownership, what constitutes animal cruelty, animal abuse.
I sit and puzzle.
animal rights and abuse what is abuse, what rights should an animal have;
animal liberation right and wrong - this in a world with so much human suffering, starvation, war:
animal philosophy right and not-so-right.

I hear views on animal rights, sometimes shudder and sometimes am encouraged.

The Idea Emporium - a space for our ideas about animals, our conceptions of animals.

ANIMALS RIGHTS AND MORE - WHO KNOWS WHAT'S IN STORE.
ANIMAL RIGHTS AND MORE - MORE THAN RIGHTS, EMPATHY AND CARING.
ANIMAL RIGHTS AND MORE - RIGHTS ARE JUST A MEANS TO PROTECT.
ANIMAL RIGHTS AND MORE - I KEEP COMING TO CARING.
