That night Caro woke
up in a sweat.
A black dog ...

She did that in life, and it happens that moving things is a natural thing for ghosts to do. I can never find anything and when I do, it doesn't stay put for long. Well, at least it gives Fluffers something to do. It's a bit boring after a while, being around a human when you're a ghost dog. Sometimes another ghost dog comes along, one that's just died. But they don't stay. It's hard for her."
Geela looked at Fluffers, now flopped on the sweatshirt, her head hanging over the top step, her eyes wandering down toward the beach.
Caro looked toward the door and saw a sweatshirt.
Maybe she should be going, Caro thought. She should be finding this very creepy and getting goosebumps. At least she should be finding Geela creepy. But the sun was shining hot on her head and a breeze brought the smell of the ocean. Nothing could be better.
Plus, she had nothing better to do. It hadn’t been fun, yesterday, bumping into Cassie and Liana outside the Ice Cream Emporium. They had rolled their eyes and started laughing their heads off.
Caro looked at Geela who looked so normal, and at the sweatshirt which lay scrunched in a heap. Maybe if she stayed, she would get a good story.

That night Caro woke up in a sweat. A black dog. The dream was about a black dog. Caro remembered the dream vividly. She was in her room, right beside the bed. With the dog. It was tugging her by the sleeve, she didn't know where to. Tug, release, tug, release. The dog was small but determined.
At first, Caro went along, bit by bit. The dog went backward, Caro forward. Toward the window. Toward the night.
All of a sudden, it pulled with all its might.
Just as suddenly, Caro was frightened. She was sure that the dog pulling her was Geela's, and she knew the dog was dead. What if it pulled her to her death? She pulled away. The dog pulled onward. They pulled and they pulled, each equally determined and each equally strong. Caro's terror grew. Grew. Grew. She wanted to scream but could not.
With a hard whack, she hit her hand against the headboard. In the dream, she had just, finally, pulled herself free.
She used to go to her parents when she had a bad dream, but she didn't anymore.

the beginning     just before

Meg, Jon and Myra Face a Cold and Rainy Day

"What would you do?" That was Myra.

Jon shrugged. "It's just a story. None of it is real."

"But what if it happened to you?? What if?" Myra could get so intense. Meg knew why. Myra was imagining, and also wasn't sure
if it was all just a story. What if stuff like that happened? Meg wanted to turn the page, find out what happened next,
but Myra's question hung in the air. What would they do if something spooky happened to them?

Outside the rain streamed down and the wind blew. But inside it was cozy and warm. Nothing could happen to them, nothing spooky.
They were all sure of that.

Children audio books. Online children's audio books.

Once again, Meg's mind was running a stream of words. Children audio books, children stories, children's stories,
children story, children's story, children's online audio books, audio books for kids, online stories for children,
children literature, children's literature. She didn't want to get into a discussion,
so it was easier just to let the words run through her mind. They started over.
Children audio books. Children literature. Children stories.

Outside the wind howled. It was time to turn the page.
