poems about death
cannot describe death
songs about death
cannot contain death
poems on death
are just words,
not empty words,
but still just words
death of a child poems,
a child of any age,
are words
and words cannot contain
words cannot even describe
still words come
and form
poems about death
songs about death
grief songs
but what is
a death poem,
a grief poem,
maybe most hurtful of all,
a child death poem?
what is it?
it's words.
and words cannot contain,
cannot even describe
the grief like a tide,
no holding it inside.
and yet when
what comes out is words,
words cannot contain,
cannot even describe
and yet words come.
poems about death,
songs about death,
spoken word poetry -
so poetic -
but it cannot contain,
cannot even describe,
and most,
cannot erase
what has happened -
death,
death of someone loved,
maybe worst,
death of a child,
even a grown up child -
forever for the parents,
a child.
and so words come,
poems about death,
grief poems,
grief songs,
sadness poetry -
heart breaking,
heart broken,
sadness and
more sadness.
such pain in these
poems about death,
songs about death,
grief poems,
grief songs.
and so much
longing,
longing to erase
not the pain,
the death.
over and over
poems on death,
poems flowing
in
death of a child poems,
death poems,
ache and sorrow
and grief.
words cannot contain
the pain.
WORDS CANNOT CONTAIN,
WORDS CANNOT DESCRIBE,
WORDS CANNOT

WORDS CANNOT CONTAIN.
poems on death, death of a child poems.
death poem, grief poem.
words cannot contain
more on WORDS CANNOT CONTAIN
In a way, words cannot contain anything.
And yet words flow from us,
maybe in an attempt to contain
love and pain, life and living and death.
Here, poems about death, on death, grief poems.
You know where they come from -
yet in some way, they are so empty.
They try to contain everything.
In many ways,
they contain nothing.
They contain anything, as well -
they contain so much we bring to them,
so much that the words call up.
As for these words, they came
when I heard of the death of a friend's son.
We did, a few months later, a rough recording
of that song about death - but never did a more finished version.
Several years later, starting to work with another musician,
he was drawn to this piece. His music is different.
The first time, my friend himself sang.
This time the voice is mine -
and so strange, to try to live these words,
the words of a parent who has lost a child.
And yet, it was also not hard.
The first time I spoke the words to the music,
tears came, sadness flowed.
In a way, we can all live every experience.
In a way, that is what is best in humans -
our capacity for empathy and
living ourselves into the experiences of others.
