            Caro rolled her head, opened her eyes a crack. It felt as if she hadn't slept at all, but she must have slept for at least a while. It was broad daylight.
            "It's almost ten, Caro." Again there was a pause. "And … it's not one of your friends at the door. It's …" Her father had the habit of pausing for effect, but not usually this much. "It's … the police. None other than Frank McDermott himself. He wants to speak to you. He says you were out on the Ormstown Road last night. Way out. At about one in the morning. At least that's what Mr. Janoschevic told him."
            Caro's heart was suddenly beating faster. "How's Jake?" she asked.
            "I don't know about Jake, Caro Carolina. But I do know you have no business being out of this house at that time of night." Through her half-closed eyes, Caro could see her father looking at her intently. "So it's true. You were there."
            Caro’s mouth tightened and she sighed. This was going to take some explaining. She didn't know where to start, and also didn't expect instant understanding. How do you get your father to believe you followed an invisible dog to the end of town? One you could only see when you were dreaming?
            "How's Jake? Then I'll tell you everything."
            "Caro, do you know the rules around here or do you not?"
            "Of course I know the rules. I have to check with you or mom before I go out anywhere, even to a friend's. And I always do." Caro shot a sulky look at her father.
            He met Caro's look, eye to eye. They both liked what they saw. Her father didn't know what Caro was going to tell him, but he trusted that Caro was not sneaking out behind his back. "Okay, kidstuff, get your butt downstairs."

Caro had hoped no one would find out about her, that Mr. Janoschevic would have forgotten about her. No such luck.
            "Hello, Frank." She had always liked Frank McDermott, the way he knew everybody and always had a joke, most often about himself, Fearless Frank the Crime Fighter. This was the first time he was asking her questions though. Would he be different, she wondered.
            He wasn't. "So, Mr. Janoschevic tells me you woke him out of a sound sleep to let him know there had been an accident."

Meg, Jon and Myra Get Back to a Favorite Kid Audio Book

Meg, Jon and Myra had been listening to a kid audio book, THE FLUFFERS BOOK.
But there had only been one chapter online, one with audio anyway. They also like to read books online for kids,
especially friendship stories and ghost dog stories, especially if they were also free kid story books.

But a friend had told Meg that now, there was more audio. Great, because there was hardly
anything they liked better than a good kid audio book. So off they went, to audio kid story books,
especially THE FLUFFERS BOOK - though they were still prepared to be
kids reading books, especially to read books online for kids.

They knew they were not just kids reading books - they had their own friendship story -
the friendship between them.
