3 Sides of the Same Coin?

I've seen:
political correctness gone mad,
rabid anti political correctness,
rigid religious fundamentalism,
right wing political fundamentalism and
left wing secular fundamentalism.

Where, in all this, is sanity?

It isn't easy, finding one's way through all the accusations and counter-accusations - and through all the admonitions not to be judgmental, both from Westerners advocating tolerance, and from religious fundamentalists, Muslim and Christian, declaring I have no right to judge but they have every right to judge.

Here is my attempt to find sanity.

Is tolerance a virtue? Is so, how much?

And what about tolerating, or even further, accepting intolerance? MORE

I don't know who wrote that, but I will take that
as my springboard for some ideas of mine.
One idea is that, just as ideas can close our minds (the idea that one race is better than another, for example), ideas can expand them.

So, the Idea Emporium - a place for ideas.

The Idea Emporium, a place where ideas are evaluated.

Idea -
a personal opinion or belief;
a thought to be presented as a suggestion;
an impression or knowledge of something;
a realization of a possible way of doing something or of something to be done;
a thought about or mental picture of something such as a future or possible event;
a concept that exists in the mind only;
a mental image that reflects reality.

TODAY'S MENU

Victims of political correctness vie with victims of fundamentalism Islamic and evangelical fundamentalism, and all clamor about definitions of political correctness, the origins of political correctness, set up a political correctness watch, thinking up examples of political correctness, shrieking about being fed up with political correctness. And then, once again, someone asks, what is political correctness? Other victims of political correctness complain of political correctness gone mad, and get into a frenzy of anti political correctness, and dream of setting up a massive worldwide campaign against political correctness.

Personally I, unlike some victims of political correctness, have more against religious fundamentalism wanting to teach creationism as having as much validity as evolution, than I have against moderate (thinking) political correctness. But hey, what's a fact when you can indulge in fantasy?

Those victims of political correctness against political correctness bemoan the possibility of a politically correct Christmas story in which Santa is on a calorie reduced low cholesterol weight watching regime to ward off the need for a quadruple bypass. And then there is more moaning about politically correct words, using only a politically correct phrase, telling only a politically correct story in which the villain of course is white and the victim is of course black but very very cool though most likely not a rap artist. Then the newspaper, in such a world, prints only politically correct cartoons, while one sends out a politically correct holiday greeting. And while one may hold on to a cookbook that challenges politically correct meals, the politically correct dictionary will only have politically correct speech. And if one, once of many victims of political correctness, gets too utterly fed up, one may resort to a politically correct death in politically correct times, telling a politically correct joke with politically correct language, politically correct terms, ho ho ho -ing a politically correct Christmas story, politically correct horror story, politically correct love story, politically correct mind in a politically correct time.

One the other hand, if one is perusing fundamentalism theology books or fleeing fundamentalism, if it's secular fundamentalism or a debate between feminism and Islamic fundamentalism, if it's liberal fundamentalism or fundamentalism is Pakistan, if it's American Christian fundamentalism, evangelical fundamentalism, the new fundamentalism, protestant fundamentalism, political fundamentalism, US fundamentalism, fundamentalism Islam, fundamentalism Islamic.

What one needs is fundamentalism exposed, from radical Islamic fundamentalism to scientific fundamentalism, Hindu fundamentalism, The best is leaving fundamentalism, As for Catholicism and fundamentalism, Catholicism is one form of fundamentalism, the rise of fundamentalism is part of the fall of thinking, religious fundamentalism, American fundamentalism, Jewish fundamentalism. Once again from fundamentalism theology books onward, fleeing fundamentalism is not an option. The only option is thinking one's way out – the way, in Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone, Hermione, faced with a riddle, does not turn to magic and spells, but to good old-fashioned figuring things out.

So again, if it's secular fundamentalism, in the form of political correctness, liberal fundamentalism again in the form of politically correct responses, or fundamentalism Islam, fundamentalism Islamic, best to …

figure one's way out

and best to …

open a channel where thought can flow freely,
and maybe one day fleeing fundamentalism
will be something fewer people will need to do.

In the meantime, victims of political correctness vie with victims fundamentalism Islamic and evangelical fundamentalism, and all clamor about definitions of political correctness.
