HERE WITH:
THE BEGINNING, 5 QUESTIONS, 1 BARRIER,
AND 1 SOLUTION
THE BEGINNING. All around her, Dr Zee, brain trainer, hears people utter opinions based on bad thinking, not thinking, bad arguments, irrational thinking, crazy thinking, logical fallacies. The people speak with extreme self-confidence, convinced (with no good reason whatsoever) that they are thinking well, that in fact their opinions show what wonderful people they are, good caring people with good ethics. Some people are convinced all opinions cultures and religions are equal, and you must not be judgmental. Other people are convinced their god wants them to kill people (like the above people) in jihad.
Dr Zee, brain trainer, looking at both groups of people, makes a diagnosis using the most elementary rules of good thinking. Her conclusion: both groups are, to put it politely, mentally out to lunch. As a Cogni Sutra diva, she knows these people have yet to experience the full pleasures of thinking.
THIS LEADS TO:
5 QUESTIONS, 1 SOLUTION, 1 BARRIER,
AND BACK TO 1 SOLUTION
QUESTION 1. WHAT bad thinking is happening?
QUESTION 2. WHY are so many people thinking so badly - for example, both among the politically correct tolerant in the West and the rigidly intolerant within Islam?
QUESTION 3. HOW DOES Dr Zee FEEL ABOUT OPINIONS utterly believed but based on not thinking, bad thinking,
crazy ideas?
Dr Zee, clear headed brain trainer, has no feelings about the opinions, but she is frequently frustrated by people.
She is most frustrated by how hard it can be to get through to people. She reminds herself that lots of changes are possible - but that they're rarely easy. She thinks of the struggles to have women and men be accepted as equals, for people of all races to be accepted as equals, for people of all sexual orientations to be accepted as equals.
"It
is a fact readily acknowledged, that for humans,
an idea is much more powerful than a fact."
When she heard that, she had a eureka moment.
Yes, she's seen that very often.
IS THAT THE ONLY WAY
DR ZEE RESPONDS TO
THESE OPINIONS?
NO.
She has, on occasion, asked herself: has someone given these people lobotomies?
More calmly - after all, Dr Zee is a brain trainer and not a hot headed lame brain - she often asks herself: what is it that has put up so many barriers to thinking, barriers
more rigid than scar tissue, as unbending as a granite tombstone? Why can so many people not think themselves out of a paper bag with a clearly marked exit?
Very very often she tries to reach people.
That is part of why she gets frustrated. If she didn't try, if she just shrugged and said, well, that's how people are, it might be easier for her.
But other changes have happened, not because people sat back and let things be, but because people worked to create the changes. So shkeeps trying, and trying different ways of reaching people.
QUESTION 4. IS FRUSTRATION ALL Dr Zee FEELS?
NO.
* She is relieved and delighted when she finds
like-minded people.
* She is utterly delighted
when she comes across good thinking.
* And - brain trainer that she is - she is overjoyed
when she sees someone
start doing good thinking.
* On top of everything, she is ecstatic
when her own inner lightbulb goes on, when her mind takes her where it has not gone before. Aha! Eureka!
The more she follows the trail of ideas, the more often - Cogni Sutra diva that she is - she gets that amazing Good Thinking G-Spot high. She remembers hitting that G-Spot when she accidentally came upon what would become her first huge research project. The words poured out of her that night. The inspiration took her to years of research. Loads of hard work. So much exploration, discovery and delight.
But back to the frustration with
people holding on, as if life depended on it, to stupid opinions.
THAT BRINGS UP QUESTION 5:
CAN ONE LEARN HOW TO THINK?
An excellent question.
Dr Zee's answer, in a nutshell: Yes.
Yes,
it is possible to improve thinking, starting by learning
the fundamentals of good thinking, the rock bottom required thinking skills.
THE 5 QUESTIONS LEAD TO 1 SOLUTION:
All roads lead to Rome, it was claimed in the Roman Empire. On the other hand, while there are many ways of reaching the Good Thinking G-Spots, most roads don't go anywhere near them.
How does one get there?
Up next: a huge, massive, monumental barrier.
But before that,
here is the 1 solution.
These 2 ingredients need to become part of the general mind set, the collective consciousness.

And now, Dr Zee, brain trainer and Cogni Sutra diva, faces ...
1 MONSTROUSLY HUGE BARRIER:
As the saying goes, there are none so blind as those who will not see. Half a century ago, the vast majority of North Americans ate white bread, commonly called wonder bread - a wonder one could survive it! Most people adamantly resisted all and any information about nutrition, smoking and exercise. Loads of information was already there - most people didn't act on it.
By now,
in our society, many people get help from experts on everything from how to exercise, how to eat well, how to floss their teeth, to how to balance their budgets, to how to improve their relationships.
But when it comes to thinking, the same people go:
"Don't tell me what to think."
"I know what I think."
"My opinion is as good as yours."
"All opinions are equal."
"Who are you to tell me what is right?"
This is never a serious question. The person is often growling, ready to pounce, as if on an evil mouse intruding into cat territory.
How can people do this, let alone how can they be convinced the are right? Dr Zee has answers.
That one is dealing with some massive inner obstacle is evident: the same people wouldn't think of responding like that to a dental hygienist showing them how best to brush their teeth; a ski instructor trying to get them down the hill safely; a nutritionist pointing out the benefits of eating vegetables.

The Idea Emporium
- why and what
One of my lifelong concerns has
been trying to make sense of reality. What is happening? Why is this happening?
And with that I come to ideas - ideas about reality, ideas that need to
be checked against reality, not just believed in like the tooth fairy
is accepted by a child.
And following down the path of ideas long enough, I've come upon the Cogni Sutra, and have become not only my own brain trainer but a bit of a cogni sutra diva. The Cogni Sutra - those of us who know its pleasures, come back for more, over and over.
