Good points, Elsa. Sometimes our initial impressions that something just doesn't feel right - no matter how old we are - ring true.
But for me, questioning Biblical stories of creation came later in my life. I never took the creation story literally.
But later in my life I questioned the existence of an all-loving, all-powerful, all knowing God that did certain things....
Consider extinction. 95% or so of organisms that have been on the earth at one time are now extinct.
Consider major extinction events. 250 million years ago-the permian extinction - 90% of marine life and 70% of land life died fairly suddenly. 65 million years ago a meteor hit a shallow sea off what is now the coast of Mexico. Bye bye dinosaurs, who had been around for over two hundred million years. Bye bye 70% of life on earth in a few months. These two major extinction events are a few of the many that have occurred in earth's 4.5 billion year history.
Consider the extinction of sentient beings: Neanderthals 35,000 years ago, homo erectus (my contention is erectus was a sentient hominid: they hunted very successfully, built huts,used fire) extinct 50,000 yrs ago after thriving for 1.5 million years.
Then, 250,000 people in late 2004 indiscriminately die in a tsunami following an earthquake off Indonesia.
So... why does God kill so many of the things he creates? Does he not love them? There seems to be no pattern of progression, no reason in many of the killing events.

You ask, why does God kill so many of the things he creates?
What is god like? For me, there is a question behind that question. Or, you might say, there's a question that needs to be looked at before even getting to that question.
The question: Given what we know of reality - such as mass extinctions, massive horrors (natural, as with a tsunami, and human-made, as with genocide) -
what is the ultimate reality most likely to be?
Is there likely to be any god or goddess, any gods or goddesses?
If so, what is that cosmic force most likely to be like?
That's something I've asked myself over and over.
Here's the first time I found myself writing about my vision of the ultimate reality. It happened when 2 characters are wondering what a true home world would be like, and if we could ever get to such a world
.
More recently, I wrote about my thoughts on the ultimate reality, in response to the common assertion, that all religions are basically the same.
