AT THE GREEN CABARET or ... THE STORY
WHERE ALIENS PLAY
At the green cabaret
the aliens say
earth is the best holiday place
At the green cabaret
where aliens play
they snork and they squink
they kanick and forink
they gronk and shmunk
and terch and frunk
so glad earth is just lightyears away
At the green cabaret
they learn
to talk and to walk
to giggle and rip off
like earthlings, they say,
howdy and hi and good day
then they squaff and danick
flabble and snick
having fun the alien way
They zachink and zaplak
plachuk and forzak
but they don't stare
at the earthlings that roam everywhere
They don't point and don't stare
Still they snaflink and they plich
then say howdy and hi and good day
and earthlings try not to stare
There's a stargate inside
where aliens arrive
a passport in each dovork
Then with visas verified
they miffle and swive
so glad to be earthside
where the natives are so shmink -
and kadick and ronek and radink
Oh, at the green cabaret
the aliens say
earth is the best holiday place
At the green cabaret
where aliens play
they snork and they squink
they kanick and forink
they gronk and shmunk
and terch and frunk
so glad earth is just lightyears away
Then they flaubik and fanonk
and zaveek, they are gone
time to move on
to zachink and zaplak back home

THE STORY BEHIND THE SONG
The first time I met Ed, back in June 1998 (as I know only because I remember the songs I wrote to his music, within a couple of days of meeting him, and I always date my songs), he played me about half a dozen melodies. For each I "heard" words - a good sign for me, as it means the music is alive for me.
I heard serious stuff - Can't See Inside Your Eyes.
I heard fun love stuff - Happy Anniversiary.
Then, for one of the melodies, what I heard was ...
At the Green Cabaret, the Aliens Play.
For me, almost all the time, there's been a big gap between hearing words, and getting them recorded. In this case, for the vocals I enlisted my partner, Philippe; my step-daughter, Julie, 9 years old at the time; and a friend of hers, Chloée (who found the song so weird, she ended up backing out). We rehearsed, and then Ed recorded our efforts, did the music and all the special effects.
Life went on. Nothing more was done. It takes a lot to keep going.
Over the past year (today it's September 30, 2007), I've developed this site, and now I'm turning my attention to the word pieces and especially to what has been recorded, and what could be uploaded.
The web is an amazing place. In the old world of recording, the goal was a final product, the best one could do. Here there's space for rough drafts.
So today this rough draft is going up on the web.

A dozen
years ago,
I began to wake up
with word pieces -
words music, spoken word, songs -
in my head.
Escape velocity.
Echo of the echo.
Tank almost empty.
Can't cross the gap.
Welcome into my world.

all kidding aside,
who take pride in
kavork and snaflink
and in the blink of an eye
the funny aliens have opened wide
the stargate
and kavork and snaflink
until in the twinkle of an eye,
good-bye
good-bye to funny poems for kids
and good-bye to funny aliens
who skip saying good-bye.
