I first started a blog almost a year ago, about Zee's Cafe Cafe, the first project I wanted to get onto the web. I was hoping to bring people along on my journey into the making of my virtual cafe. I wanted them to know a bit about me, the cafe, and have them join in.

Blog One for Zee's Cafe Cafe.

Zee's Cafe Cafe - a virtual cafe for spoken word artists and alternative music and image people of all sorts, starting with Zee, who is and isn't me.

Zee - an everywoman of our time. She's done a lot, tried a lot, has plans and hopes for lots more. Central - she hasn't given up. Sometimes she gets tired, but she doesn't give up. Things may go on the back burner for a year or two, but they keep simmering, and then she gets back to them.

Just as I am getting back to Zee's Cafe Cafe, which I thought up over 5 years ago, which I did two sample sites for, which I tried and tried to get going - but it was too much for me when I didn't get the support I needed. I ran out of energy and time. I needed money - or someone else as enthusiastic as me to give it loads of time and energy without getting any money. I did get some support - without it, I wouldn't have gotten anywhere.

I applied for grants. Didn't get them.

I wrote all kinds of other things, got all kinds of other creative projects going. They get ending up on back burners. I now have so many projects on back burners.

One by one, they need to get done. And Zee's will give them all a home.

The projects: Loads of songs and spoken word pieces that need to be turned into finished pieces so they can have a chance to teach people. I write words and often hear simply melodies in my head. I can't go further. Loads of ideas for show - video, tv, live. All need others to reach completion.

The first matches I need: matches for the songs and word pieces. What I have needs to be matched up with songwriters, arrangers, musicians.

And with that, I stop.

There's more, and more and more.

But for now that's is enough - or it will be overwhelming.

Back to: Blog One. What is happening this week?

Most important: 2 meetings yesterday. One with Robert (long-time acquaintance - tv production, never in the big time). One with Mark (friend - we've worked together on a cd-rom projecct and others).

Robert's goal: a 13-part tv series. The immediate goal: do a 10-minute teaser to get a producer to want to develop the series.

Mark's goal: to get the website out. And then, the brainstorm idea: to ask for help on the site, for unfinished pieces.

Philippe was with us. Philippe - my partner. He later said he'd been thinking the very same thing that Mark suggested. My question: what had he not suggested it? Why not suggest whatever might be helpful? What was it in him that had not made it important for him to suggest that?

If there's any idea I have that could help, I suggest it. It's important for me to suggest it.

That tells you a bit about the kind of person I am. I want my ideas to get out into the world.

But that isn't what I want to tell you, whoever you are.
What I want most to tell you is how I felt after the meetings with Robert and Mark.

After the meeting with Robert, I felt energy slowly flowing through me. Yes, said a voice inside me. Write the script for the teaser. And then, with Robert, search for people to do this small enough project. Very, very do-able.

After the meeting with Mark, I was in a whirl of energy. Energy was zooming through me in all directions.

               I am not meek
               I am not mild
               I seethe
               I boil
               Like an a-bomb
                                   I go wild
               Can't keep the force inside

That's from a piece I wrote years ago. I am hearing it in my head now. It's how I felt after the meeting with Mark.
And it's because of the meeting with Mark that I am sitting here at my computer, on August 8, 2005, at 5:10 in the evening, on a hot hazy summer afternoon, writing Blog One for Zee's Café Café. For the moment, everything else is second. This is what I want most to be doing - trying to reach you.

Blog One - come along with me on this journey into the setting up of the Café Café. I don't want to wait until I have some finished 10-minute teaser. I want you along. I want you to see what's happening, week by week, and also help make it happen. I know that things will come to me from you.

I'm a college teacher - and I know that so much comes to me from my students. Along with my partner, I've been renting part of our country place this past year - and so much has come to us from the people who have come to stay.

So anyway, that's my first invitation to you. Come along with me.

My second: I'm inviting you to see if you could be my match in some way,

               Are you my match?
               Will the fire catch
               from a spark
                              to a flash
                              to a flame
                                             in a hearth
               wood burning to ash

I have met some matches. Mark is one - he lit something in me yesterday. Maybe Robert will be another. Or maybe I will be a match for him. (Who are Mark and Robert - too complicated to get into all that here - you are coming in in the middle of a story. I will get to the explanations later - I don't want you to get bogged down.)

You? That is more important right here. What matches am I looking for?

First, if you are interested in what you are reading, that is match enough. My desire to tell you about my journey is being marched by your desire to come along.

But for some of you, there may be another matching.
I have written hundreds of songs and spoken work pieces. Spoken word pieces: that is, pieces meant to be mainly spoken, but with strong music going with them, music of all kinds. Some of the pieces have been matched - with rock, pop, country, rap, blues, world beat, trip hop - with music of all kinds. Most are waiting for a match.

And even the pieces that have been matched with music have hardly every been put together well enough. People keep going off in their own directions.

The web is large. There's a lot I've found on the web, and in general through reaching out to as many people as possible.

Other needed matches: for the visuals. I have done some, and so have a couple of other people. So many are left to do.

And then, if you'd like some of our own work to appear at the Café Café, that would be another kind of match. The Café's need for people would be matched by your desire to be seen there.

In all cases, first take a look at Zee's Café Café, as soon as it's up, to see the site and get a sampling of my stuff.
For today, this is my starting point in trying to reach you.
