8 O'CLOCK
evening shadows
porchlights bright
evening walking
dog by my side
no longer hungry
not yet tired
it's eight o'clock
and I'm just fine
sunset's gone
the sky still glows
evening strolling
moving along slow
no longer thinking
not yet asleep
it's eight o'clock
shadows are deep
windows are lit
people sit outside
couples move in silence
I linger and smile
not longer lonely
yet still alone
eight o'clock
soon I'll head home
eight o'clock
eight o'clock
the best time
the very best time
evening shadows
porchlights bright
evening walking
dog by my side
no longer hungry
not yet tired
eight o'clock
and I'm just fine

A dozen
years ago,
I began to wake up
with word pieces -
words music, spoken word, songs -
in my head.
Escape velocity.
Echo of the echo.
Tank almost empty.
Can't cross the gap.
Welcome into my world.
HAPPINESS POEM ABOUT EVERYDAY JOY,
LIFE POEMS ABOUT QUIET HAPPINESS
Call it a happiness poem,
in the plural call them
happiness poems.
Call them
happy poems.
Call them
poems about happiness.
Call it
happy poetry.
There's everyday contentment, joy, happiness.
It's nothing much, and it's everything.
And what form would be best?
Ode? Haiku?
Sonnet?
Would it depend
on the words that come from deep within?
And then happiness poem,
happiness poetry -
so unpoetic.
What about calling it ...
ode to joy?
song of contentment?
Who knows?
But who is searching for an ode to joy,
for everyday joy?
Anyway it's a life poem
about happiness.
Happiness shows, glows,
whatever the form.
