Elsa's Creativity Space - Update

today: Whose Dog Is It Anyway?
On Pets, Ownership, Slavery - Animal Rights, Human Rights, Who's Right?

and: Caro's Quest -
or Caro Caroline, Geela Gribbs, and Fluffers the Invisible Dog

upcoming: Webcast

swirl - creativity emporium      Hello again,    elsa - of the creativity emporium

Here is a dilemma we've been dealing with the past few months.

The dog next door wants to move in. He's been hungry. He's sometimes cold. Most of all,
he's left alone for ages - days even - in the barn. We have two dogs, nine cats (we live in the
country) - and a warm house where our pets are welcome. We'd like to give him a home.
But he belongs to the farm next door. The big question: should the dog be allowed to
choose?

puppy - eyes looking

I don't know where you stand on animal rights. I do know there have been many changes
about all kinds of rights - women's rights, and so on.

So, do we have the right to own dogs and cats, or should they be allowed to make
some decisions on their own - like where they want to live.

For a full exploration of that question, click here.

Also, if you've had any experiences or thoughts around this, I'd love to hear from you.

****

I came to my love for animals early - at seven, when my parents took in a dog people
had neglected so badly it was very sick and almost died. A couple of years ago, that love
came out in a book for preteens.

The Fluffers Book
Caro's Quest
or Caro Carolina, Geela Gribbs and Fluffers the Invisible Dog

A woman comes to a seaside town with an invisible dog - a ghost dog, she says.
Thirteen-year-old Caro can't see it. But is Fluffers there, all the same? Then a classmate
is hurt, hit by a car and abandoned in a ditch. The dog comes to her in a dream.
What is real? What is safe?

If you have a preteen around, or if you're a teacher of preteens, or if you just like kids' books,

Responses very welcome.Responses very welcome.

Next time: listening to one's own inner sense of right and wrong. I still remember the first time I heard my own inner moral voice very clearly. I was seven. Once again, it had to do with animals.

****

And that's about it for this update. If you've been getting them for a while, you may have
noticed that The Creativity Emporium keeps growing. Here's advance notice of something
else we're planning to have with the next few months: webcasts and podcasts.

And then, as always, all the best,

Elsa

Welcome to Elsa's Creativity Space

Whose dog is it, anyway? Pets, Ownership, Slavery.
Elsas Creativity Space Update explores human rights, animals rights.
How to decide what is ethical? Good question.

Elsas Creativity Emporium.
An all-round creativity site
exploring moments, memory, thoughts
through spoken word, song, story,
idea pieces, rap, journal, reflection, dreams, more.

Elsas creativity space is
Elsas creativity space

Gertrude Stein said, almost a century ago, a rose is a rose is a rose.

Just as a rose is a rose is a rose,
Elsas creativity space is
Elsas creativity space is
Elsas creativity space.

One could even go on to say that
a rose is a rose by any other name.

Likewise, one could hold that
Elsas creativity space is
Elsas creativity space
by any other name.

And many humans might not even notice if,
instead of
Elsas creativity space
I wrote
Elsas creativity place
or
Elsas creativity site.

Most humans would just register that it's
Elsas creativity something or other.

And it is.
But there's more.

The name is a signal.

This is
Elsas creativity space
Elsas creativity place
Elsas creativity space.

i am not calling mayday. This is not a distress signal.

It's a hello signal, come see me, notice me.

Hello,
it's Elsas creativity space
Elsas creativity place
Elsas creativity space
calling all search engines
to find me on my island
deserted but fertile
enchanted but isolated
creative and creating but too too alone.

Who will help me through my dark?
Who will help me make my mark?
Who will help me build my ark?
I cannot do it alone.

I'm calling to people
but strangely it's not people
I am turning to for help.

It's the web
the world wide web.

I'm calling hoping the web will hear that
Elsas creativity space
Elsas creativity place
Elsas creativity oasis
is calling, calling, calling with longing and hope.
