Caro Keeps Trying

Will she ever get anywhere? Will she ever track down the hit and run driver who left Jake unconscious in a ditch? Will she ever be able to figure out what is real and what isn't? Will she ever be able to stop being scared of the dark?

Caro keeps trying. For a long time, she's tried to stay friends with Cassie and Liana, but now they won't even talk to her. Will she ever find a real friend?

One thing she knows, dont ever give up, dont ever give up. The words bounce around in her head. Try try try. Try try try again. And dont dont dont give up. Dont ever give up. The voice is her mom's. Her mom never gives up. Her dad is readier to quit. He says sometimes you can be too stubborn. You have to see what works.

But there are some things where Caro doesn't feel like quitting. One of them has to do with the hit and run driver who left Jake unconscious in the ditch. Caro doesn't want to give up trying to find that person.    Click to go to CARO'S QUEST

Questions and more questions. Who am I? What is a hero? Who is this person I call me? Will I ever change? Will I ever be a hero?

So often, life is boring. Even now, with a ghost dog, a hit and run, and the sleuthing, she's often bored. She had no idea that being a detective could be so dull. She used to think a sleuth was someone who did exciting things - like Nancy Drew, girl sleuth. Never a dull moment. Now - on her first chance to do something big and important - she's finding that a lot of the work is way duller than everyday stuff like fighting with her friends or watching a video.

But there's something she's learning about herself. She's not a quitter. She doesn't like to give up. She wants to get things done. When she feels like quitting, her inside voice tells her, Quit with the complaining. Dont ever give up. She recognizes the voice. It's her mom's. Dont give up. Dont give up. Dont, dont, dont give up. Her mother makes lists and doesn't quit. Now Caro is finding herself making lists.
