A Girl and a Ghost Dog

You never could tell who would be staying in the tiny cottage next door. It was for vacation people, always changing. Caro was used to that. She wasn't used to people like Geela Gribbs. Geela looked ordinary and sounded ordinary. But her talking to an invisible dog wasn't ordinary.

Then something much weirder than that happened. The ghost dog showed up in Caro's dream. Somehow Caro knew it was Geela's dog. The dog seemed friendly enough. It seemed to want to play. But it started tugging at her sleeve, pulling her toward the window. It was a long way down.

Caro could hear the surf outside the window, could smell the salt air. Everything was normal - except being pulled toward the window. She pulled away. The dog pulled even harder. Caro pulled. The dog pulled.

Caro has always loved ghost stories. Her library has shelves of ghost stories for kids, fabulous preteen stories with girl and dog adventures. Caro has read at least half the books from those shelves. She also loves horse stories, dog stories, dolphin stories. Her favorite TV channel is Animal Planet. Dog love. Animal love. Caro has even baked cookies to raise money for endangered wild animals.

But that's different from a ghost dog in her dream trying to pull her out the window.
THE FLUFFERS BOOK

The same question goes through her head when a hit and run driver strikes down a schoolmate and the ghost dog comes to her. How does one know what is real, what one should do? But she isn't about to do nothing.

Still, the question continues when she decides she'll try to find out who did it. She's not a quitter.
